The Diocese of Spokane has a "mission parish" in Guatemala. Due to poverty levels, each year girls borrow veils to wear on their First Communion day. With this in mind, the idea sprung, and before we knew it, we had the materials ready for the making, all we needed were “helping hands!" On May 13, the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, we celebrated the month of May, "together with Mary!" Joined by young girls, ages 8-17, we were able to make forty First Communion veils to send to little girls in Guatemala.
It didn't take long to find girls interested in spending this special day with us, ironing, cutting, glueing and sewing. In addition to the varied tasks at hand, the day also included a rosary procession and crowning of Our Lady, Evening Prayer (chanted) and FUN with the Sisters!
