Each sister goes to confession and makes a profession of faith, and because it is not included in the Profession of Faith, they add a specific loyalty and obedience to the Pope.
June 24, 2007 - Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist
Fourteen women (Reverend Mother Marie de Lourdes, Mother Mary Katrina, Sr. Mary Elizabeth, Sr. Mary Philomena, Sr. Mary Teresita, Sr. Maria Inviolata, Sr. Clare Marie, Sr. Francis Marie, Sr. Mary Eucharista, Sr. Maria Avila,
Sr. Mary Bethany, Sr. Marie Francine, Sr. Maria Magdalena and Sr. Mary Joanna), previously members of CMRI, assembled for their first liturgy together (now in full communion) celebrating the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. (Sr. Maria Consuela attended the Mass, but did not make the Profession of Faith or sign the statutes of SMMC until such time that she felt prepared by more study and prayer). Fr. Darrin Connall, liaison for SMMC with Bishop Skylstad, was the chief celebrant and homilist. Concelebrants were Fr. Daniel Barnett and Fr. Paul Vevik. Assisting at the Mass were Deacon John Ruscheinsky, and seminarians Jason Hiner and Tyler Smedley. Also in attendance were three of the Missionaries of Charity (Sr. Alinda was on retreat at the time).
September 5, 2007 - Feast of Bl. Teresa of Calcutta
The 10th Anniversary of Mother Teresa’s death is also the occasion for Sr. Maria Consuela to make her Profession of Faith and sign the SMMC statutes. The ceremony takes place with the Missionaries of Charity Sisters in their private chapel. Afterward, the sisters all attend Mother Teresa’s memorial Mass at St. Patrick’s Parish. Sr. Consuela takes up residence at the IHRC convent following the ceremonies.
September 22-25, 2007
Mother Assumpta Long, O.P., Mother General of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, visits IHRC to assist the new community in learning about the renewal of religious life as called for in Vatican II in preparation to write the Constitutions.
October 2-13, 2007
The Sisters fly to California for a 10 day visit with the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Los Angeles. This visit included: a retreat given by Fr. Thomas Nelson, O.Praem; class by Fr. Michael Sweeney, O.P., an abbot’s funeral at St. Michael’s Abbey (Norbertine); time for visiting their varied apostolates; and an opportunity to speak with Sr. Vincent Marie Finnegan who was instrumental in founding the CMSWR. They also visited the contemplative Missionaries of Charity living next door to the Carmelites. Sr. Nirmala had previously explained the situation at CMRI to all 700 MC missions and solicited their prayers for the sisters. Wherever they meet the Missionaries, upon hearing that they live in Spokane, they tell how they have been praying for the sisters to come into full communion.
October 27, 2007
Sr. Nirmala, while visiting the Missionaries of Charity’s Spokane mission, arranges to visit the convent at the IHRC. An honor and delight beyond description!
December 2, 2007
The Sisters assemble in the main chapel at IHRC wearing their new habits for the first time. Fr. Connall blesses the habits and the sisters sing the Salve Regina. After leaving chapel, they have their first meeting for beginning the Constitutions.
December 9, 2007
Rule of St. Augustine is chosen as the Rule for SMMC. Initial wording of charism states “Under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we cultivate her virtues as we endeavor to communicate the love of Christ through communal charity and joyful evangelization.”
May 11, 2008
Sr. Kathryn Joseph submits the Constitutions to Bishop Skylstad for approval.
May 15, 2008
In a letter dated May 15, 2008, the Constitutions of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church are approved by Bishop William Skylstad.
May 17, 2008
A Mass in honor of the Holy Spirit is offered to begin the first General Chapter of Election. No chapter proceedings take place until the following day.
May 18, 2008 - Feast of the Most Holy Trinity
Proceedings for the elections begin: The following sisters are elected:

June 24, 2008 – Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist
The Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church profess temporary vows at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. (These are vows for 1 year)
In a letter dated June 24, 2008, Bishop Skylstad erects the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church as a Public Association of the Faithful within the Diocese of Spokane.
